課程概述

Pomology, or the study of fruit science and fruit production, has been the most important sector in horticultural research and industry. The perennial character and life cycle of most fruit crops are remarkably distinguishable from other horticultural crops, casting challenges and interests for scientists and growers. Fruit culture integrates many different aspects, making them some of the most challenging crops to grow successfully, and some of the most complicated production system to study. This course is one of the core courses in horticulture major, providing participants basic foundations and explanations needed to understand the complex physiological mechanisms regulating fruit trees growth and the variable responses of fruit trees to management practices.

課程目標
The objective of this course is 1) to equip the students the general fundamental biology and physiology of fruit trees, principle techniques for fruit cultivation, and the development and trend of modern fruit production system, and 2) to initiate student’s interest in advanced pomology courses and future career path design.
課程要求
Completion of basic botany course is strong recommended before considering HORT1014.
